THE ALTARK'S REQUESTS

early-to-mid May, 1999 GM: Nate Udell

WHAT HAS COME BEFORE
(These adventures were based on TSR’s Temple, Tomb, Tower module).

Little is known of the Altark and of the Blackrazors dealings with him. What is known is that he is the ruler of a powerful, but far off, kingdom somewhere on Oerth. What is also known is that in CY 588 he sent a representative to the Flanaess looking for adventurers willing to risk death and disaster for gold and treasure. He found willing participants in form of the Blackrazors, who didn’t mind travelling to an unknown place based on the promise of riches.

THE SUMMARIES
THE TEMPLE
The first time the Altark’s men came for the Blackrazors -- on Reaping 19, CY 588 -- their mission was to recover an artifact of great power from the temple of a goddess of courage -- a temple which had been defiled by the god of death. Participating in this adventure were:

Aaron Windstalker, the half-elven thief/mage/warrior
Alaric, the human warrior
D’klar, the dwarven war priest
Sven Kildare, the human terramancer
Luc, the dwarven warrior
Greggor, the half-elf blade

The temple was guarded by a variety of ingenious defenses, including a dust that robbed magic items of their power, a medusa’s head which turned the unwary to stone, and a torture chamber manned by flesh golems. But it was a pit trap -- baited with a ring of regeneration -- that proved to be the most deadly. When Aaron went to retrieve the ring, the trap opened, sending him plummeting a half-dozen yards downwards. When he hit bottom and slipped on the ring, he was overwhelmed by fumes at the pit’s bottom. The poisonous fumes killed him, and the ring could not bring him back.

With some more exploration of the temple, the Blackrazors were able to recover the artifact they had come for, which they then turned over to the Altark. After that, they returned to Blue.

THE TOMB
Several days later, on the 26th of Reaping, CY 588, the representatives of the Altark returned. The far-off ruler was pleased with their first effort, and begged their assistance again. This time they were asked to recover an item of power from the tomb of a terrible lich.

Details on their adventure are very sketchy. It is known that this unnamed lich attempted to turn them aside with a variety of spells and traps, but failed. The Blackrazors pressed forward and eventually fought their way into the lich’s lair. There they found that the lich was bound to his throne by a powerful curse -- a fact they put to took full advantage of when Sven Kildare dropped an immense iron wall on top of the creature. A short time later, it was destroyed.

The Blackrazors acquired several powerful magical items in addition to the artifact they’d been seeking. They turned over the relic to the Altark, and returned to their home base -- the Ettin’s Heart Inn -- in Blue on the 29th of Reaping, CY 588.
